Wimbledon
This family garden in Wimbledon has been designed to create a more generous and flexible outdoor living space, with a strong connection between the house and garden. The clients wanted a design that would work for everyday family life, with space for children to play, while still feeling calm, considered and atmospheric. The layout provides a generous lawn, improved entertaining space close to the house, and a more secluded area at the rear of the garden that can adapt over time.
A restrained palette of limestone paving and warm Cotswold gravel gives the garden a cohesive, contemporary feel. The gravel area provides flexibility: for now, it can function as an informal play space, but as the children grow older it can transition into a wellness area, with space for a sauna, cold plunge or more adult-focused seating. The planting will soften the structure of the garden, using clipped evergreens, pleached trees, layered shrubs and relaxed perennial planting to create privacy, seasonal interest and a more immersive atmosphere.
